Rising approximately 70 feet along the Hudson River at the intersection of Canal Street and West Street, this sculptural structure houses 5,000 tons of salt. The Salt Shed’s faceted façade enlivens the reinforced concrete enclosure — its solid crystalline form acting as a counterpoint to the diaphanous, scrim-like façade of the Manhattan 1/2/5 Garage, directly across Spring Street to the north. The structure tapers towards the base, creating more pedestrian space.
Tours will be led by Dattner Architects and WXY.
